This week’s New Editions

picks from this week’s latest maritime publication releases and important regulatory guidance for each title to help you decide if it’s requirement for your vessels.

WITH595 – Dynamic Positioning: Theory & Practices, 2nd Edition

This book bridges the knowledge gap between the users of dynamic positioning (DP) and the knowledge encapsulated in sources such as DP system manuals, onboard documentation, IMO publications, class society rules and regulations, IMCA guidelines and research papers. This book has been updated to MSC.1/Circ.1580 and its text is quoted in italics.

In this second edition, a chapter on DP incident investigation has been added, an important function for SDPOs. The scope of Chapters 17–23 on mission-specific operations has been broadened to enable bespoke project planning. These chapters in Part V should be read in conjunction with chapters in Part I dealing with generic DP operations.

STS Service Provider Management and Self Assessment, Second Edition 2020 – Nov 2020
Recommended for Ships engaged in STS Operations and her ManagementOCIMF’s STS Service Provider Management and Self-Assessment is an important tool that helps Ship to Ship Service Providers assess, measure and improve the safety and effectiveness of their management systems. This second edition has been updated to reflect current legislation, expectations and emerging issues and incorporates feedback from STS Service Providers and users of the first edition. It is based on the principles of the Tanker Management and Self-Assessment (TMSA 3) programme that was revised in 2017.Key updates to this edition:
•           Where applicable, the elements have been aligned with TMSA 3
•           A new element has been added that covers Maritime Security
•           The ‘Reliability and Maintenance of STS Equipment’, the ‘Due Diligence Regarding Transhipment Locations’     and the ‘STS Operations’ elements have been expanded to include new sections
•           The ‘Environmental and Energy Management’ element now incorporates the OCIMF Energy Efficiency and Fuel Management paper that was a supplement to TMSA 2
•           Elements have been streamlined and merged to improve consistency and make self assessment easier
•           The best practice guidance has been expanded to complement the key performance indicators and revised to remove ambiguity and duplication.

IMO 200E IMDG Code 2020 Edition (Amendment 40-20) – Dec 2020
Essential for vessels with DG Cargo onboardThe IMDG Code lays down basic principles: detailed recommendations for individual substances, materials and articles, and a number of recommendations for good operational practice, including advice on terminology, packing, labelling, stowage, segregation and handling, and emergency response action.Every two years the IMDG Code 2-volume publication is updated and amended. The 40th Amendment (2020) of the IMDG Code will come into force on 1 January 2022 for two years and may be applied voluntarily from 1 January 2021.

Essential for vessels with DG Cargo onboard The International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code relates to the safe carriage of dangerous goods by sea, but does not include all details of procedures for packing of dangerous goods or actions to take in the event of an emergency or accident involving personnel who handle goods at sea. These aspects are covered by the publications that are associated with the IMDG Code, included in this Supplement.The Supplement also includes texts of the Medical First Aid Guide, descriptions of the reporting procedures for incidents involving dangerous goods, harmful substances and/or marine pollutants, the IMO/ILO/UNECE Guidelines for packing of cargo transport units, the International Code for the Safe Carriage of Packaged Irradiated Nuclear Fuel, Plutonium and High-Level Radioactive Wastes on board Ships and other appropriate Assembly resolutions, resolutions and circulars of the Maritime Safety Committee and circulars of the Facilitation Committee and of the Sub-Committee on Dangerous Goods, Solid Cargoes and Containers.
Course Criteria for Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) Simulator Training, 3rd Edition

This document provides the requirements for Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) certification, set out in Chapter II of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) International Convention of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW Convention), as amended and corresponding sections of the STCW Code.

 Training courses developed in line with these criteria and delivered at centres approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), will cover the mandatory minimum requirements for the safe use of ECDIS.
