The new IMO Bookshelf makes IMO eBooks easier to access and use from 1 May 2022.
IMO is replacing its Windows-based IMO Bookshelf solution (V.5.13) with a next-generation browser-based IMO eBook platform. The new IMO Bookshelf runs in a standard web browser but behaves like desktop software, making it easier to access and use. This IMO Bookshelf service will be available from 1 May 2022.
Full library of IMO content (130+ books) available on any device from desktop computer to tablet or phone, allows you to download purchased IMO publications to use offline when you don’t have access to the Internet, such as when a vessel is out at sea.
IMO Bookshelf can work on any platform and can be used across multiple devices for easy access anywhere onboard from bridge to engine room (as well as ashore) and at act a back up.
Ships with download speeds as low as 0.3 Mbps can access the new IMO Bookshelf while at sea. Initial publication download sizes range from 250KB up to 20MB so customers may want to restrict the downloading of New Editions to when vessels can connect to Port WiFi.
The IMO Bookshelf is automatically linked to VPS for easy ordering and order approval. Orders instantly updated in your VFI Compliance module to give you visibility and transparency of what is held on onboard. Available within VNaaS and Bundles or to buy as standalone New Editions
Customer can automatically download and view any pre-owned IMO digital publication in the eBook platform. There is no need for customers to spend money rebuying any existing Editions, you can simply switch to an easier way to access the publications at no extra cost.
Because it works with whichever internet browser is already installed on any device, the new IMO Bookshelf eliminates the need for special software to view publications and avoids the IT burden usually associated with proprietary software set up, maintenance and management.
The new solution has been designed with new requirements on cyber security in mind and is compliant with the MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3 cyber risk management policy.
